The Minjasafnið Museum at Mánárbakki was opened on 18 June 1995 in Þórshamar, a building which was transported from Húsavík to Mánárbakki. The premises have now been extended, and a three gabled farm house built. This new building, called Lækjarbakki, now contains the exhibits which, due to lack of space, could not be housed at Þórshamar.

The museum is open daily from 10 June to 31 August, and by arrangement outside these hours of business.
