Following is a press release from the people behind the project.

"On Feb 9, 2021, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the shortlists for the 93rd Academy Awards®. Fifteen songs were announced for the Original Song category. Among the songs announced was Husavik from the Netflix film Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.

The town of Húsavík is home to 2,300 people. Fishing was for a long time our main export until about 25 years ago. Now our main export is tourism and more than a third of all jobs in Húsavík are in tourism. For this reason, the town has been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, but the release of the Netflix film, and the song Husavik has lifted the spirit of the people of Húsavík. When we learned that the song, that has become a sort of an anthem for our people, had a chance of an Oscar nomination, we sprung into action. This website and the accompanying video are the result of that. An independent “Oscar Campaign” by the people of Húsavík.

It is unlikely that a village of this size has ever started its own Oscar campaign, but in these extraordinary times, we see a unique opportunity to revitalize our town and its tourism through this film and the song Husavik. We enjoyed the help of the Húsavík Theater CompaySahara IcelandHúsavík Cape Hotel and Inspired by Iceland, to make this dream a reality.

Apart from this unusual campaign, we are now also working to build a museum dedicated to the Eurovision Song Contest in Húsavík, that will open in summer 2021."

Towns & Villages

Society and the economy have many faces. Whereas agriculture is the mainstay of rural areas, the towns depend upon fishing, industry, trade and a range of services, with each village having its own characteristics though they all prove hospitable hosts.
The availability of food and accommodation and the possibilities at every location for recreation and entertainment make hopping between the villages informative as well as fun.
In every case, the residents are lively and ready to celebrate.
