Hotel Mikligarður - Arctichotels

Hotel Mikligarður is a summertime property set within a student accommodation building in Saudárkrókur. It offers 65 rooms (single, double, triple and family rooms) all with private facilities and a free Wi-Fi, a TV lounge is available on each floor.

A breakfast buffet is served each morning and a wine bar is open in the evening. Our staff is more than welcome to help you out with planning your trip or activities during your stay or give local tips about activities and good restaurants.

The hotel is well located closed to the center of the town, which offers an array of activities. Sauðárkrókur has three restaurants, a bakery, an information center, The Heritage House, the Tannery visitor center, an outdoor thermal bath, riding tours, bird watching area (puffins), a golf course, a health club, shops; all of which are within walking distance from the guesthouse. As well this, there are excellent walking paths along the beach or up to the mountains above Sauðárkrókur.

Summer Hotel Mikligardur is only a 20 minute drive from the hot pot Grettislaug. This tourist attraction area offers regular sailing trips to the island Drangey (The Puffin island), as well as a coffee house. Another local point of interest is Glaumbær the old farmhouse at Skagafjordur Heritage Museum, which is a 15 minute drive from the hotel.

Sauðárkrókur-Tindastóll Skiing Area

The ski area at Mt. Hlidarfjall lies at the bottom of one of the biggest fjords in Iceland surrounded by high mountains ranging from 1000 to 1538 meters over sea level. The ski area is 5 km above the town Akureyri. The area has 6 ski lifts, 23 alpine slopes and 15 km of cross country tracks, ski cafés, ski rental and a ski school. Snow production systems ensure a long season from end of November till beginning of May.
