Arinbjörn Jóhannsson Erlebnistouren

Since 1979 we have been organizing riding tours in the traditional icelandic spirit - long rides over the country with packhorses, a free running herd and plenty of enthusiasm. Over the years, we have added hiking tours and special programs which concentrate on Icelandic country life and nature and for which we received the Nordic Travel Award 2016.

Today, we are a licensed travel- and tourist office and live on a farm, which has been owned by the same family for the past 100 years. We aspire to gentle tourism in harmony with people and nature. In all our programs we visit other farms, neighbours or attend festivities, a dance, or a ceremony, etc., in order to enable our guests to really get to know Icelanders. Our local guides speak English, often German and of course Icelandic, are professional and experienced and enjoy nothing more than introducing their beautiful island to you! Our farm Brekkulækur, heart of all our activities, contains our home, office, stables and a guesthouse where you can contact us all year through. We encourage you to rely on our experience and feel at home in the warm and friendly atmosphere of our house!

The Seal center

The Icelandic Seal Centre is housed in the historically interesting and attractive premises of VSP in Hvammstangi. Here you will find informative exhibitions on the seal and its habits, seal hunting and the utilisation of seal-related products, besides stories and folklore surrounding that fascinating creature.

The centre also plays the role of a tourist information bureau, providing visitors with details on the most interesting places in Húnaþing, and also where to find relaxation and leisure facilities. Souvenirs and hand crafted goods from the area are also on sale here.

Bjarg í Miðfirði

Bjarg in Midfjordur, is the farm that belonged to Asdis, the mother of outlaw Grettir Asmundarson - Grettir the Strong, of Grettis Saga fame. Beneath a rock in the hayfield, Asdis buried Gretti´s head, which was presented to her by his killer. There´s now a monument in her honour on site.

Towns & Villages

Society and the economy have many faces. Whereas agriculture is the mainstay of rural areas, the towns depend upon fishing, industry, trade and a range of services, with each village having its own characteristics though they all prove hospitable hosts.
The availability of food and accommodation and the possibilities at every location for recreation and entertainment make hopping between the villages informative as well as fun.
In every case, the residents are lively and ready to celebrate.
