Vaglaskógur Campsite

Vaglaskógur Campsite has five camping grounds that all offer access to restrooms and most offer access to electricity. There are showers in two locations and a good accessibility for wheelchairs.

Vaglaskógur has many interesting walking paths that trace through the beautiful nature of the forest. We have a wide variety of tree species that grow in colder climates. There is an amount of bird life in the forest, most notably the rock ptarmigan, common snipe and white wagtail.

There is plenty of entertainment for the whole family close by, for example Akureyri (17km through Vaðlaheiði tunnel), a petting zoo (6km), a swimming pool, mini-golf (12km) and golf (3km).

Godafoss waterfall

The Goðafoss waterfall is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland. The water of the river Skjálfandafljót falls from a height of 12 meters over a width of 30 meters.

In the year 1000 the Lawspeaker Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði made Christianity the official religion of Iceland. After his conversion Þorgeir threw his statues of the Norse gods into the waterfall.
