Sport Tours

Sport Tours is an authorized Travel Agency by the Icelandic Tourist Board and has been operating since 1994. The headquarters are in North-Iceland but we operate our tours all over Iceland and offer a variety of tailor made and activity-packed tours for groups and both private and schedule tours for groups and individuals.
Sport tours are specialists in this field and have been organizing package tours for many years. Our tours contain plenty of excitement and action blended with Iceland?s spectacular nature, relaxation in geothermal water, excellent food and good accommodation.

We specialize in making your trip fun. We can offer snowmobiles for small and big groups, catskiing, backcountry skiing and heliskiing.

Gasir - Medival Trading place

Gásir is a unique place. In no other place in Iceland is it possible to find so many remainings from a trading post from the Middle Ages. Gásir was the main trading post in northern Iceland during the Middle Ages, and the place is mentioned many times in Old Icelandic Sagas from the 13th and 14th centuries. Archaeological digging in the area during the last six years has shown that it was a trading post up to the 16th century, possibly until trading started in Akureyri.

Each year in July Medieval life at Gásir is reconstructed with help from Icelandic craftsmen who wear medieval clothes and sell handicraft. Various handcrafts are on display; dyeing with plant extracts, wool-work, sewing, sewing leather and weaving.

Hrísey

Hrísey is Iceland's second largest island, the largest being Heimaey in the Westmann Islands. It is covered with vegetation, being, for the most part, flatland which only rises to 110 metres above sea level at its highest point. The bedrock is basalt, about 10 million years old. On the southernmost tip of the island is a small village where most of the islanders live. There is a relatively new swimming pool to tempt the visitor, and also the chance to do a spot of sightseeing from the trailer of a tractor, which is perhaps something one does not experience every day!
The crossing between Hrísey and Árskógssandur takes about 15 minutes one way, and the ferry, Sævar, runs several times a day.
