The river Álftarskálará runs through an awe-inspiring canyon called Álkugil. The walking route is marked from the Vatnsdalur road and lies along the canyon on the eastern side up to the Einvígisfoss waterfall.

Walk along an old road, sheep trails and tussocks. There are several horses in the area – please show utmost consideration. Show great caution along the canyon edges due to danger of mudslides.
The route can get heavy layers of snow in the winter.
Please do not walk outside of marked paths and show consideration for flora and fauna
