Rúrik Gíslason is a former footballer for Iceland's national team and a jack-of-all-trades who has turned his hand to making gin, modeling, music, and dance: in 2021, he won the German dance competition 'Let's Dance.'

In March 2023, Rúrik came to North Iceland for a winter trip. He flew to Akureyri with Icelandair, who offer daily flights from Reykjavík. For four days, Rúrik experienced some of the best the region has to offer in wintertime, from thrilling activities to natural wonders and local cuisine.

His first day included horseback riding, viking sagas, skiing, swimming in a geothermal infinity pool and a tour of a local beer brewery. If you haven't got any of that on your bucket list, you are likely to put some of these experiences on that list after watching!

On his second day, he tried heli-skiing, on-piste skiing, a beer bath, delicious fish soup for lunch in Dalvík and great sushi for dinner in Akureyri.

On his third day in Lake Mývatn and Húsavík, the sun came out and weather was amazing. Join him on a snowmobile tour, see him with the husky dogs as they race on the frozen Lake Mývatn at the Mývatn Winter Festival, discover a cow shed café, explore geothermal sites and lava formations. Top it off with a dip in a natural bath in warm seawater!

On his final day, he went whale watching in Húsavík before exploring Goðafoss waterfall. Afterwards he drove to Akureyri for some skiing and bathing. Thanks for the visit Rúrik!
