Iceland Winter Games will be held in Akureyri at Hlíðarfjall Ski resort from 22nd March – 24th March. This international winter sports event will be hosted for the fourth time and has cemented its place in the event calendar for all winter sports enthustiasts in Iceland, while still growing as the biggest winter sports event in the country.

This years highlights inclued a Downhill mountain bike race in the steepest slope of the resort, snowmobile drag race, the Icelandic snow-volleyball championship, the Icelandic snowskating championship and a freeride tournament on both skis and snowboards, and this will be the first time that such an event will be held at Hlíðarfjall.

At the same time, the Youth Championship of alpine skiing and cross-country will take place at Hlíðarfjall, so there are many exciting events to watch. We encourage our visitors to enjoy both these events as well as everything that Hlíðarfjall has to offer, as the resort will of course be open for the public this weekend with only a few slopes closed due to the Youth Championship.

In Glerártorg shopping mall there will be an exhibition of snowmobilies and other state of the art vehicles and machines designed for winter-use and sports.
