Hjalteyri - Large Loop Trail Hiking trail
This 7.5 km circular hike is moderately challenging, with occasional stretches of uneven ground and indistinct trails. Hikers are rewarded with magnificent views across Eyjafjörður.

Starting at the old herring factory (Verksmiðjan) in Hjalteyri, the trail follows a track north along the shoreline, offering a pleasant coastal walk with views across Eyjafjörður. The route passes a small lake before continuing further north, where it leaves the coast and climbs up the bank above the beach.
The trail then crosses open countryside, where the ground can be uneven in places. This section rewards hikers with sweeping views over Eyjafjörður and the surrounding mountains. At the northernmost point of the loop, the route turns south and follows the western edge of a cultivated field to a track leading to the road.
From there, follow the road past Hótel Hjalteyri and continue back downhill to the old factory, completing the loop.
