The walk begins at the lighthouse by the shoreline and follows a pleasant path north along the coast. There are numerous opportunities to wander down to the beach, enjoy the fresh sea air, and enjoy the views both up and down Eyjafjörður fjord. Continue past the second pond, Tungutjörn, and follow the old access road toward Helgafell. From there, turn south onto a gravel track leading to Tjarnartún. At the junction, turn left onto Bakkatún and continue along a path that passes a small woodland area and follows the Valsá River. The route then turns south through the residential neighbourhood, following paths between Laugartún and Smáratún before connecting with a trail that leads back down to the shore and the starting point. Along the hillside, visitors are treated to views of Svalbarðskirkja Church and the farm of Svalbarð, home to a well-established dairy farm.
