Open international conference at Stéttin and the Whale Museum in Húsavík

Organized by the University of Iceland’s Research Centres in Þingeyjarsveit and Húsavík
A growing field of research, the “blue humanities” brings cultural studies of the sea into conversation with marine and environmental sciences. Interdisciplinary collaboration based in the blue humanities is urgent as climate change threatens oceans and coastal environments in ways that simultaneously impact politics and culture. The blue humanities provides a framework for understanding such complex “natureculture” entanglements. Accordingly, this blue humanities symposium leverages knowledge about the physical changes of marine ecosystems to generate cultural and political alternatives to the current status quo.
