Boreal Screendance Festival is an international screendance festival held annually in Akureyri. The festival was first held at Mjólkurbúðin in November 2020 and has since expanded to venues throughout Akureyri's Art Street (Listagilið).
Boreal brings together screendance works and artists from Iceland and around the world, creating a platform for international exchange and collaboration. The festival showcases ambitious dance films in a variety of settings, from large screens to projections on walls, windows and other surfaces.
A distinctive feature of Boreal is the way selected films are presented as installations, adding another dimension to the works and creating a different experience for the audience. Great care is taken with each setting and presentation, allowing the films to be experienced in an environment designed around the work.
Alongside the screenings and installations, Boreal hosts a variety of dance-related events and gatherings throughout the festival.
Admission to all events is free.
