Free film screening at the Eurovision Museum in Húsavík on Thursday, September 10 at 8:00 PM
Two new Icelandic documentaries will receive their first public screenings on Thursday, September 10. The occasion is particularly special, as Aðalgeir of Mánárbakki celebrates his 90th birthday on the same day. The documentary about his life and remarkable collection will first be premiered for family and friends at Sólvangur Community Hall in Tjörnes that afternoon.
Later that evening, at 8:00 PM, locals and visitors are invited to a free public screening at the Eurovision Museum in Húsavík, where both documentaries will be shown.
1. Mánárbakki: “Here, Time Is Never Lost”
The first documentary (35 min.) tells the story of Aðalgeir at Mánárbakki and the extraordinary heritage collection he has carefully built and preserved over several decades, alongside his work as a weather observer for 60 years.
The film takes viewers on a fascinating journey through the collection, from the old yellow house of Þórshamar to the traditional turf house standing in the field. Aðalgeir introduces an astonishing variety of objects, ranging from the first matchbox he ever collected to rare royal treasures and historic manuscripts.
Aðalgeir is as gifted a storyteller as he is a collector, sharing his stories with warmth and a deep passion for preserving cultural heritage for future generations.
As the film's presenter, Stefán Jón Hafstein, puts it:

2. A Glimpse into the Home of Icelandic Folk Art
The second documentary of the evening (45 min.) explores Safnasafnið – the Icelandic Folk and Outsider Art Museum in Svalbarðseyri, created to mark the museum's 30th anniversary in 2025.
The film offers a valuable insight into the ideas, vision and work of the museum's founders, Níels Hafstein and Magnhildur Sigurðardóttir, and the unique cultural institution they have created.
3. About the Filmmakers
Both documentaries were completed this year and are produced by Íslandi ehf. (Stefán Jón Hafstein) and Qjujak (Óskar Páll Sveinsson).
Stefán Jón leads the storytelling and interviews, while Óskar Páll is responsible for filming and editing.
