Every year during the first weekend of August, the people of Siglufjörður celebrate the town’s rich herring heritage and commemorate the era when Siglufjörður was known as the “Herring Capital of the World.”
During the herring boom years, thousands of men and women came to work in the industry, creating a lively atmosphere often compared to a gold rush. The town's population swelled dramatically, the streets were full of life, and there was activity around the clock.
Each year, locals and visitors come together to recreate this unique spirit through a vibrant program of events, entertainment, and cultural activities.
A detailed program can be found on the Facebook page of Síldarævintýrið.
