"The Fifth Suite" - concertseries - is the brainchild of cellist Ólöf Sigursveinsdóttir, a prominent figure in the Icelandic classical music scene. She plans to perform Bach’s suites in selected churches across the Eyjafjörður region. Cello Suite No. 5 in C minor, BWV 1011, will be performed at Svalbarðskirkja on Svalbarðsströnd this coming Friday, July 10, at 8:00 PM. Ólöf pays tribute to Anna Magdalena Bach by drawing inspiration from her manuscript—specifically, the copies she made of her husband’s compositions between 1727 and 1731 (BWV 1007–1012). Ólöf will share interesting facts with the audience about the couple and the manuscript itself. On this occasion, Svalbarðskirkja provides the setting for her performance of the fifth suite, a magnificent six-movement work lasting half an hour. The church: Consecrated on May 30, 1957, the church is a large stone structure covering 115 m² and standing 17 meters tall. Designed by Bárður Ísleifsson, it seats around 90 people. Admission is free, though voluntary contributions are welcome. The concert series is presented under the auspices of Berjadagar (The Berjadagar Music Festival Association).

Everyone is welcome! Voluntary contributions are appreciated.
