Mirjam Blekkenhorst and Sverrir Möller have been operating a tourism business at Ytra Lón farm on Langanes peninsula since 1998. They also engage in sheep and horse farming, forestry, and various forms of resource utilization on their land, all of which complement each other well. Mirjam and Sverrir offer accommodation, facilities for meetings and courses, as well as catering services. They also organize walking and car tours around Langanes peninsula and beyond. Their customers are both foreign tourists and Icelanders.

Our uniqueness lies in our peaceful environment. We offer tourists not only peace and quiet but also a strong connection to nature and the animals on the farm.

Interplay of Diverse Activities

The tourism and agriculture practices at Ytra Lón farm complement each other remarkably well. Mirjam and Sverrir produce a significant portion of the food they offer to guests, while also utilizing what nature provides, such as wild trout, driftwood and other natural resources. Thus, sustainability serves as a guiding principle for their operation.

At Ytra Lón farm, guests can enjoy a variety of unique nature-related experiences. They are invited to visit the eider duck nesting area, participate in tree planting, and join guided tours of Langanes, which highlight the area's natural beauty and cultural heritage. Mirjam and Sverrir note that their guests are particularly curious about the farm's operations and their way of doing things.

How Are the Values of Sustainable Development Reflected in Life and Work at Ytra Lón Farm?

We are deeply committed to living a simple life and making sustainable use of what our land and the environment have to offer. We want to share our lifestyle and experiences with our guests so they can appreciate the beauty of nature and the tranquility it brings.

Mirjam and Sverrir have always emphasized the importance of collaborating with their local community, including businesses, schools, and associations. This collaboration has been particularly evident in the development of tourism destinations in the area and in the planning and design of tours. In this way, they have the best interests of their local community at heart.

Are There Any New Developments in the Works?

When asked about what's upcoming for further development of the services at Ytra Lón farm, Mirjam and Sverrir share their interest in creating extended stays for groups, allowing guests to stay for a week or even longer. This arrangement would enable guests to relax, disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and reconnect with nature and themselves in a peaceful environment.

Mirjam also notes that the current state of world affairs has led her to reflect on what they can contribute: "I believe that the more individuals who cultivate peace and tranquility within themselves, the more peace can be extended to the world around us.”
